Born in Lucknow, India in 1972, where Dilip Maurya left behind an early acting & dance career due to circumstances that prevented him from pursuing this dream.
Dilip liked cooking a lot as a hobby, he decided he would try out the culinary arts. First, he enrolled himself in IHM, Lucknow and to earn a diploma in hotel management. He joined Taj View Hotel as a trainee in Agra under Chef Sunil Sandhiyal for the next two years. After gaining some experience, he was presented with an opportunity in his home town, Lucknow, to work at a 5-Star luxury hotel in Taj Mahal under chef Gulam Rashool.
Dilip Moves to Canada
His friend who moved to Canada a long time ago, suggested that he apply for a job in Canada. He told Dilip about opportunities to become a great chef encouraging him to think about maybe one day, to having his own restaurant. Dilip made his move to Canada in 1997 and started working in an appliance shop on Kingsway St. in Vancouver. He worked there for four months before he moved to Kelowna where he joined the team at Dawett Restaurant.
In 2001, Dilip opened his first Indian Restaurant in a partnership in Penticton. Dilip eventually sold this restaurant to his partner to come to Kamloops.
Dilip & Preeti Open Maurya’s
In 2004, in Kamloops, Dilip and his wife, Preeti, opened a second restaurant in heart of downtown, “Maurya’s Fine Indian Cuisine” now “Maurya’s Rest.Bar.Banquet”. Since 2004, Dilip and Preeti are passionate, persistent to grow their dream to create an “exceptional cuisine with a premium casual dining experience.”
